Ban Bamboo
About This Spot
Ban Bamboo is a quietly inviting neighborhood gem tucked along Philadelphia’s Ridge Avenue, where the hum of daily life slows just enough to invite you in. Stepping through its doors feels like finding a pocket of calm — the kind of place where the familiar warmth of a shared meal resonates softly beneath simple, unpretentious décor. It’s the kind of spot where the pace encourages you to linger, to savor each bite and every small, thoughtful detail crafted by hands that clearly respect tradition and freshness.
The atmosphere here is modest but genuine, carrying the comforting pulse of a local eatery where friendly faces greet you not as strangers but as fellow travelers in search of something real. You’ll find that the experience isn’t about flashy presentation or overt style; instead, it’s grounded in the honest, rich flavors that fill the air and the kindness that fills the space.
At Ban Bamboo, the menu unfolds like a story told through dishes that bring forward the vibrant, layered tastes of Thai and Lao cooking with heartfelt subtlety. The tastes of tangy, crisp papaya salad balance effortlessly against fragrant, hand-tossed noodles and delicately spiced curries. There’s a genuine home-cooked quality in the warming bowls of soup or the carefully seasoned morsels wrapped in thin, crispy shells — moments on the palate that invite quiet appreciation instead of rush.
The kitchen's respect for authentic ingredients and balanced flavors shines through each dish, revealing a care that regular diners notice and newcomers quickly come to understand. The portions encourage sharing and discovery, whether you’re indulging in a favorite dish or daring to try something new. This is a place where the food feels thoughtfully made, where each bite quietly tells you that the person behind the stove is someone who knows and loves this cuisine deeply.
In Ban Bamboo, you find a spot that blends community and comfort without pretense, a little oasis where the beauty of human connection and food’s simple joys coexist — where customers come for the familiar, stay for the warm embrace of genuine hospitality, and return eager for another taste of home away from home.

Best crab Rangoon of my life! The wrapper was thin and crispy, filling was perfectly flavorful and came with this unique sweet and slightly spicy dipping sauce. And the customer service was excellent

khao soi was something that i had often growing up, so it was so wonderful to be able to have it here! the mango juice is fairly sizeable for $7 (i feel like many places give you a far smaller portion for $5-6), and the fried tofu is good. i think one reviewer commented that they were tasteless, but i fear that's just what tofu tastes like until it absorbs or is dipped in a sauce! a bit of a smaller portion but definitely nice and crispy with the classic peanut sauce. have dined in person and ordered delivery through doordash, and both experiences were great! maybe i'm just missing thailand, but the decor definitely gave a thai feel, like a small restaurant in a market. i feel lucky to have a nice restaurant like ban bamboo in the roxborough area!

It was a soup night. Two lemongrass soups, I drank the red spicy one and gave.a dear friend the white one. We loved the the serving size, the price and the flavors, I would have preferred a bolder lemongrass taste over the spicy. The best green veggie dumplings

I ordered take out and It was absolutely delicious! I had been craving spicy, flavorful, and authentic Lao/Thai food, and Ban Bamboo delivered exactly what I needed. The staff was incredibly accommodating and helpful, making sure everything was just right. I’ll definitely be ordering again!

This neighborhood Thai restaurant is a real find. The décor is simple, but the food truly stands out — fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can tell the chef values quality ingredients and authentic taste. The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. It’s a comfortable, down-to-earth place that delivers consistently great food. A solid choice for anyone who enjoys good Thai cuisine without the fuss.

Everything i try is my new favorite thing! I love the different cultural influences that are a part of Thai food. The food is delicious! My first time hanging Thai food was here. I am going in November so I enjoy an authentic sneak peak of what's to come! So glad they're in the neighbourhood!

First you have to wrestle with the scotch tape holding your napkin around your silverware. But once you have accomplished that, everything is good. The service was excellent, and the food was a little better than average, but definitely made with fresh ingredients and care. This Thai restaurant is at the busy intersection of Leverington Avenue and Ridge Avenue. Parking is free after 6 PM on the street. Amplevseating was open to us and there was a steady takeout business. The decor is definitely all Thai themed with a lot of decent art and the obligatory Buddha statue. I guess you could call the gift shop with jewelry, skirts, scarves, etc. part of the decor as well. Portions were generous, despite what some other reviewers have said. A nice surprise came at the end when they offered us Ube icecream and real mango ice cream, not a sherbet, for dessert.
